The old scanners worked fine with a amplified speaker plugged in the headphone jack. When I stop the SDS100 on the exact same frequency that the TRX-1 is decoding, programmed as a DMR freq., it doesn't even make a hit on the signal bar. I can't imagine the TRX-1 is that much more sensitive on DMR than the SDS100. If you have a smartphone or other USB device charger you can use it if you don’t want to use the charger that came with the radio. In the car you can use any USB port to power/charge the radio. A small separate rechargeable coin like battery that was just to keep the clock going. Normally, they should last a least a few weeks to a few months if the main battery is dead.
